Tetracore Energy Group commissions Ghana’s first Gas Virtual Pipeline Network CNG Facility

Tema, Ghana — Tetracore Energy Group Limited, through its subsidiary Tetracore Gas Ghana Limited (TGG), has officially commissioned Ghana’s first‑ever Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) facility, marking a significant milestone in West Africa’s clean energy transition and strengthening cross‑border energy collaboration between Nigeria and Ghana.

The historic commissioning ceremony, held at the Tetracore CNG facility in the Tema Industrial Area, was commissioned by the President of the Republic of Ghana, President John Dramani Mahama, and attended by the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energy, Honourable John Abdulai Jinapor, senior government officials, industry stakeholders, financiers, ambassadors, community leaders, the Managing Directors of NNPC Gas Marketing Limited and Gas Aggregator Company of Nigeria, members of the Tetracore Energy Group Board, and other distinguished guests.

The $15‑million project represents a transformative commitment to Ghana’s energy infrastructure and positions Tetracore Energy Group as a leading integrated energy player in the sub‑region. The facility provides a cleaner, more reliable, and cost‑effective fuel alternative for industrial, commercial, and transportation users across Greater Accra and surrounding regions. Tetracore is a registered shipper on the West Africa Gas Pipeline (WAGP) and has fulfilled all regulatory conditions to commence cross‑border gas supply across the sub‑region. In collaboration with NNPC Gas Marketing Limited, the Group has executed a major joint‑venture agreement to enable steady gas supply from Nigeria into Ghana for this CNG mother station.

At the core of the development is a gas virtual pipeline network, which eliminates full reliance on fixed‑line pipeline infrastructure. The heart of the mother station is a heavy‑duty high‑pressure CNG compressor skid with initial throughput capacity of 5.1 million standard cubic feet per day. The compressor system takes feed gas delivered via West Africa Gas Pipeline, compresses it to 250 bar for loading into tube trailers. These mobile tube trailers transport compressed gas to satellite daughter stations spread across Ghana, serving factories, public transport fleets and retail CNG refuelling points where permanent pipelines do not reach.

Company officials revealed that the site is designed for future expansion. Once phase‑two upgrade is completed, compressor capacity will be boosted to 10 million standard cubic feet per day. Tetracore also disclosed broader investment plans for Ghana’s downstream gas sector, including additional mother‑daughter station networks across Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale over the next three years.

Speaking at the commissioning event, the Energy Minister of Ghana highlighted the long‑term value of the project. “For decades, much of our domestic natural gas has been channelled mainly to thermal power plants. This CNG mother station unlocks gas for road transport and manufacturing industries. The compressor‑based virtual pipeline model is the practical solution for areas without pipeline coverage. It will reduce our nation’s heavy import bill for diesel and petrol,” Jinapor stated.

Ola Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Tetracore Energy Group, said: “We are bringing the proven virtual‑pipeline CNG concept which we have tested extensively in Nigeria into Ghana market. Reliable high‑performance compression equipment is critical to the whole business. Sourcing, installation and maintenance of CNG compressor skids remain one of our top operational priorities. Without durable compression systems, the entire mother‑station cannot function.”

The Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama praised the Nigeria‑Ghana energy partnership. “Regional energy integration is not merely a policy slogan. Today we see tangible infrastructure built through cross‑border cooperation. This CNG facility is our first big step toward a broader autogas economy in Ghana. We welcome more private‑sector gas investors to come in and build refuelling stations, vehicle conversion workshops and supporting maintenance services for compressors and related hardware.”

Industry analysts note that Ghana currently has very few local service providers for high‑pressure CNG compressors. Most spare parts and major components are imported from overseas. As the CNG network scales up, local after‑sales maintenance capability will become a key challenge for operators.
